Peanut
One of the birds we rescued from a farm in Mississippi after the storm is in a very large cage with two other pairs. The two bonded pairs are resentful of this single male and pick on him constantly. Since there are only two feeding stations he has to wait each day for the other birds to eat and is very frustrated.
I go out of my way each morning to hand feed him some large nuts away from the other birds. All of them love almonds but this bird won't have anything to do with them. All he wants is peanuts. So we named him "Peanut" last November. In the following months Peanut has lived the life of a second class citizen.
Today, Peanut is getting a special present...a 10 year old female companion. We are moving him to his own private cage next to his new girlfriend so they can get aquainted. Next month we will put them together to start a life together. Finally, Peanut will be the master of his cage...he deserves it.
