Aftermath
Not exactly a bird-related post.... Today I was inspecting what I thought were unoccupied apartments in New Orleans to check on the air conditioning. I had keys to all of them. I knocked on the door of the third apartment and opened the door about six inches when I came face to face with a .45 caliber pistol.
The resident was still paranoid about looters and was armed and ready to use it. It happened so fast I couldn't be nervous. I just said, "air conditioning man...please don't shoot me." It must have worked because he didn't.
We talked for about 10 minutes and I thanked him for not shooting me about 10 times. New Orleans, can't live with it, can't live without it.
