Handfeeding
When we first started handfeeding baby parrots we were lucky to have two very knowledgable breeders to teach us. After a couple of years we put together a Handfeeding Handbook on our website to show the most rudimentary techniques. Our thought was not to encourage inexperienced people to try it. Some people get babies thinking it's easy and get in over their heads. We felt we could save some babies by providing this information.
In general the document has been well received. Since we wrote it we have moved on to more expensive equipment and supplies but the basic principles haven't changed. We received the following email this week:
Your website has been a blessing of information for me. My baby will be here Friday and as a vet tech I know how to hand feed but I wasn't sure on when
to start introducing foods and what to introduce...
The only question I have is at 6-8 wks when you start offering crushed
pellets and cooked soft veggies... do you also introduces a bowl of water?
Thanks so much for your help! Abbey
