Another Day, Another Natural Disaster
All of us in south Louisiana live with the knowledge that every couple of years we will be scared by a hurricane. Every 10-15 years we will experience a small one and every twenty-five years we will take a major hit. This year we were hit solidly by one storm with winds of 73 mph. It was a wake-up call.
Now we are preparing for Hurricane Katrina. All of the models this morning take the storm directly over our area by Monday. Katrina is projected to have sustained winds near 140 mph with gusts to 165. So, today we officially begin our hurricane preparedness plan; picking up lawn furniture and outdoor plants, getting lumber and non-perishable groceries and gasoline. If the storm track stays where it is Sunday will be a twenty hour work day preparing the house and the outdoor birds for the worse.
Winds of 35-50 mph are predicted for Monday morning getting progressively worse until the eye hits us around 10 pm. We've posted the occassional entry about hurricanes in the past. This time we'll try to give you frequent updates so you can share the experience with us.
