The Pond
No, this isn't our pond...but it's close. Our pond should cover a half an acre and be 18 feet deep. What we have is half that size and a depth of four feet. Obviously there is a leak so we called in a bulldozer guy with a reputation for being able to fix any leaking pond. He previewed the problem with Charles, a friend who works with us every Saturday. After a couple of days he called to say that for only $7,000 he could find and patch the leak.
We talked to other friends who assured us that for $3,000 we could dig the same sized pond from scratch. We don't know who to believe but Charles had an interesting suggestion. Everything he and I have attempted has been successful. So why don't we rent the trash pump that was so successful on the swimming pool and drain the pond? Then, for $300 we could rent a Bobcat (otherwise known as an adult toy) and scrape the bottom until we find where the bottom is breached. If we need clay we could order a truckload or two and spread it out to seal the bottom.
This would take three weekends and risk about $700 but if it's successful we would save over six thousand dollars. Given our track record and the fact that Charles has more guts than brains and Craig has more brains than ability we might just have the key to success. So...look forward to tales of which legends are made or utter silence during the next month as we proceed with the latest hairbrained scheme.
