Work Twice, Fix Once
Here at Chateau Plumage, the "Green Acres" of south Louisiana, we spend two hours working and one hour fixing what broke while we were working. So far we have repaired the lawnmower 7 times, the weedwacker twice, chain saw 4 times, mulcher once.
The power washer was broken for 3 months after exploding in a fountain of water one day. We were able to find a part 40 miles away and magically, after 4 hours, we were back in business.
People may wonder why farmers have such large machines...we don't. Large machines can put up with the wear and tear of heavy duty work much better than the residential tools we brought to the country. Our hope is to buy a tractor this summer so we can retire the lawnmower and weedwacker. We also hope to get more gas powered toys like a back-pack blower.
And to think that just a year ago, we wanted a swifter.
