Kenny & Bella
Mike wrote us this weekend about Kenny, an Eclectus he purchased from us last year.
Craig and Debra,
you might remember i bought a male solomon island eclectus from you in late july/early august...whom i named kenny (somewhere i read that was an irish name that meant handsome?). At the same time i bought locally a female SI, who had been somewhat left alone for a yr or two, and was a little on the...unfriendly side...
she is still a little standoffish...but kenny has been great for her. He is such a friendly, even tempered, socially appropriate (he'll go to almost anyone), playful guy! he loves to get off the cage and explore the living room, and when i'm watching movies, if i don't get him, he'll come over to watch with me...usually bella will follow him where he goes, it just takes her a little longer to go...she want's to see that nothing happens to kenny first!
Bella has taught kenny to say "whatcha doing", and sometimes he says something like "pretty bird"...for some reason "uh-oh" doesn't seem to come easily to them? i'm also trying to teach them "good night", but i'm not consistant enough about this...and i never say good morning...it's not really a part of the day i like...
anyway, just wanted to let you know all was well...btw, kenny also does ok with my two conures (sun and nanday, both very cute and funny), but bella gets very aggressive when she feels they are too close...especially the brightly colored sun bothers her...interesting!
all for now...i check your blog at least once a week...kenny and bella are at least a couple yrs from needing a nest box i think...but i reckon they've bonded...kenny doesn't feed her...but they hand out together and do fine in the cage together...hopefully eclectus adolescence won't be too traumatic on us!
